Bad Pool Caller on Windows XP

Sometimes, people get stuck in some problems and there is apparently no way out. Bad pool caller in windows xp is one of such problems. There are a number of ways due to which this could happen. However, the reason might be the same.

If you have important data in your hard disk, and you are getting this blue screen whenever you are trying to restart the computer, then you might be in a trouble. Most of the times, people do not know about the importance of making different drives and saving their data in those non system drives. If you have also followed the same pattern, then installing your operating system again would not be a big issue in this case. The reason is that you will just have to reinstall the whole operating system by formatting.

If you were not working on partitions and now you want to restore everything when you are getting bad pool caller xp screen, you can make another partition so that you can install operating system on that drive. If you have no idea about how to make another drive, then just leave this idea and buy or borrow a hard disk to install operating system in it. All you have to do is to install you operating system in that hard disk and easily backup your data from that drive to CD or DVD.

Even if this is also showing the bad pool caller error screen, you can start recovery. If you have some sort of booting disk or something else, you can try that as well. Before that, try to boot the system on safe mood and rename the folders windows and program files. This is for sure not the first option, because if the setup detects that the windows folder is removed, it might not boot the system on that copy of windows then.

Even if all these options fail and you are still getting bad pool caller xp screen, then there is something else that you can try in order to get rid of the bad pool caller xp screen. You might have some kind of hardware conflict. Fist of all try to update chipset to macro/56 specifications (this might be different based on your computer’s specifications). Update the system drivers. When you are trying to install windows, disconnect the internet wire (if any). Another way is to know that which hardware is causing this bad pool caller xp error. Try to remove or change that part.

What is Java Virtual Machine

You may have seen or heard about the Java virtual machine, or maybe you have seen the acronym JVM and wondered what it meant. Some may also be curious as to exactly what it does, and what you can gain from having it on your computer.

What is it?
The Java virtual machine is just what it says it is. It’s a virtual machine that runs on your computer.  It is how Java programs can be ran on different operating systems. If a program was written in the Visual Basic programming language, for example, it could only be installed on a Windows computer. It would not install on a Mac or a Linux computer.

Being able to be installed on any operating system makes Java really flexible. It can even be installed on small devices such as phones, microwaves and inside your car. All of this is made possible by the Java virtual machine.

Do I need it? Where can I get it?
The Java virtual machine has to be installed on your computer for Java programs to run. Most operating systems already come with it preinstalled. But if you don’t have it, or just want to update it, then you can go to www.java.com and download it from there.  The Java virtual machine is different for each operating system. Make sure to download the correct one for your operating system.

What does it do?
When a Java program is compiled (checked for errors by the programmer) it is actually made into byte code no matter what operating system it’s being made for. The Java virtual machine on your operating system takes that Java byte code and translates it so the operating system can understand it.  Then the operating system tells the computer what needs to be done. So you can think of the Java virtual machine as a translator between the Java byte code and the operating system.

DirectX and DirectX 9.0c FAQ

If you have ever tried to run a game or any other multimedia program on your computer, and received a message indicating that you need to install DirectX, do not panic. DirectX is software that Windows uses for many different reasons. It enables web developers to create videos and audio files in standard formats that will then work with various types of computers. It is generally important to have the current version of DirectX installed, so that everything can run smoothly.

For example, if you are into video games, you know that the Playstation 3 console will play video games that were created for the Playstation 2 as well as the regular Playstation. That’s similar to how the DirectX works. Since there are different versions of the software, the newer ones will work with older programs that call for older versions. The current version, DirectX 9.0c, will typically run programs that once required DirectX 8, DirectX 9, or any previous version. However, it doesn’t work the other way around. If you have something that requests DirectX 9.0c, you will have to upgrade the software for it to work properly.

Sometimes you may not realize that the DirectX needs to be updated. However, there are errors and programs you may encounter with older releases of the software. When trying to run a program, if you can errors about the system not being able to locate or  initialize a file, failing to start, or performing an illegal operation, it could be due to your old version of DirectX. Poor quality video and screen display can also be an indicator that it is time to upgrade.

You can check to see which version of DirectX you are running in just a few seconds. Open your Start menu and click ‘Run.’ Type ‘dxdiag’ (without quotations) in the text box and press Enter. A box will appear that will have the information about the current DirectX version installed on your computer listed at the bottom. If you find that you have an version older than DirectX 9.0c, all you have to do is download the current version and it will overwrite any files.

To download and install DirectX 9.0c, you can visit http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en. It is required that you are running genuine Microsoft Windows operating system for the download to work. Since most operating systems come pre-installed when you purchase a computer, you may not know what’s really on your computer prior to downloading the new version of DirectX. Microsoft will do a validation check before installing DirectX 9.0c on your system.

How to Block Spam on Outlook Express

Receiving spam email can be a pain, especially when it becomes to practically consume your inbox. At one time, I was receiving about 10 spam emails for every 1 legitimate email. It can get to be annoying quickly, but fortunately, there are some ways you can help eliminate, or at least reduce, the amount of spam you can in your email account, particularly if you are using Outlook Express.

The first thing you need to be aware of when you wish to get rid of some of the spam email in your box is the Blocked Sender List feature that Outlook Express provides. Many times, spam regarding the same product or service will come from the same domain name, but the email address will change (for example, me@speed-list.com, tom@speed-list.com, bob@speed-list.com). If you receive 2 emails from each of this spamming business emails, they can add up quickly! What you need to do is block the domain itself so that no emails can contact you…no matter how many more they think up.

To place a domain on the Blocked Sender List, highlight the email in question. On the Menu bar at the top of the application, click ‘Message’ and then choose ‘Block Sender…’ from the drop down menu. Now this only blocks that specific email address. To block all the email address from the domain, you must complete one more step. Select the ‘Tools’ menu from the top of the application, choose ‘Message Rules’ and ‘Blocked Senders List…’ Click over to the ‘Blocked Senders’ tab. Highlight an email address, then click ‘Modify.’ Remove everything up to the @ symbol (leaving the domain.com), then click OK.

Since the above spam blocking method that become quite tedious, especially if you are getting lots of spam emails each day, you may find it a sound investment to download anti-spam software. One such program is called SPAMfighter. This program is free to use, and works efficiently with Outlook Express to rid you of junk in your inbox. There is also a paid Pro edition that has even more features at protecting your email than the standard.

Along with using either method described above, you should always be careful with who you give out your email address to. The more online forms you fill out for sweepstakes, free stuff, information, and website signups, the more you are placing your inbox at risk for spam. This is how many spammers get your email, and those who do not get it directly from you, buy it off others who you have given it to.

All About Firmware

Some of you may have heard of the term “firmware” but are not very familiar with its purpose or function. Firmware is somewhat similar to software, in that it assists your electronic device in functioning properly. It is necessary to make your computer and other electronics, such as DVD and Blu-Ray players, display movies, connect to the Internet, and do a variety of other functions correctly.

The firmware is permanently embedded in the hardware, but can be changed or updated if needed. It will typically come preinstalled in the memory chips or ROM’s, but can be easily upgraded if you begin experiencing problems with your device. This will not always solve your problem, especially if your hardware cannot support the latest firmware upgrade. However, it is a good place to start when testing what will work to make your device function better.

Upgrading your Firmware

Upgrading your firmware can be done over the Internet, if you have means of a connection, or by obtaining a CD or other media device that contains the information needed. It is recommended that you contact the manufacturer or your device when you choose to update. They should have the latest version available to you.

Connecting to the Internet is the easiest way to upgrade the firmware. It takes just a few minutes to access the manufacturer’s website, locate the download link, and have the new files on your device. If you are upgrading a computer, this will be the way to do it most of the time. However, if you are upgraded something that cannot connect to the Internet, you may need to download the files to your computer, transfer then to a memory card or other storage device, then upload them to the device you wish to upgrade.

If the upgrade is not available in this way, you can still contact the manufacturer and request the upgrade be sent to you in the mail.

What to do about Runtime Error 91

After encountering the runtime error 91 you will find that there are many things that can cause this error to occur. The runtime error 91 can cause your program to freeze and you may lose your work if it closes before you save your work, or worse, multiple programs can freeze. The runtime error 91 can even cause your computer to become unresponsive, and then it would require a restart.
When the runtime error 91 occurs the first thing you should do is run your virus scan program. This error can sometimes be caused by malicious code on your computer. This code could be what is causing your applications and/or computer to freeze. If this is the case you will need to remove the harmful code quickly. I would suggest running your virus scan frequently. Some virus scans allow you to set a schedule of when you want your computer scanned. Also, make sure to keep your antivirus program up to date so you can be sure to catch the latest viruses as well.
Don’t forget that as long as your computer is connected to the Internet it’s susceptible to many different viruses and other malicious applications such as ad-ware. If you don’t already have an antivirus program take care in choosing the correct one. There are many antivirus programs out there, some free and some cost money. I personally use Avast for my antivirus. It’s totally free and updates itself automatically. I can vouch for the fact that it’s not a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Meaning that it is not malicious code of a virus pretending to be an antivirus program.
Once you have chosen your antivirus program taken these important steps to make sure your computer is completely clean of viruses and malicious code. First make sure your antivirus program is up to date. Also make sure to unplug your network cable when you are not using the Internet. Removing the cable keeps the viruses from making it into your computer, and hackers too. Now start your computer in safe, there are different ways of doing this depending on your operating system. In safe mode a lot of programs do not run, only what’s really necessary to start the computer runs. Now run your virus scan and get rid of any viruses you see. After the all the viruses are gone, you can restart your computer and go into normal mode and see if you are still getting errors.

How to Reinstall Yahoo Messenger

If you have been having problems with your Yahoo! Messenger, such as freezing, slowness, and/or automatic shutdowns, it may be time to try reinstalling the software. This could fix any corrupt files that may be causing the errors you are experiencing. You should start by uninstalling the current version of the messenger from your computer. Be sure to make a backup of your message archive if you wish to save it, as it will be deleted once the program is removed.

To remove the old version of Yahoo! Messenger, be sure the application is not running prior to beginning the uninstall. Open ‘My Computer’ and select the ‘C’ drive. Click ‘Program Files,’ then ‘Yahoo!’ Click the Yahoo! Messenger folder once to highlight it, then press the ‘Delete’ key. Alternatively, you could right click the folder and select ‘Delete’ from the menu.

Note that the ‘C’ drive is the default location for the messenger. If you chose to place it somewhere else on your computer when you initially installed the program, you will need to find it, and delete it from there. Removal can also be done from the ‘Add/Remove Programs’ screen in your Control Panel, which is found in your Start menu.

Now that you have rid your computer of Yahoo! Messenger, you can proceed with reinstalling the software. Be sure no applications are running with the exception of one Internet Explorer (or your preferred Internet browser) window. Visit http://messenger.yahoo.com. Click the ‘Download Now’ button in the middle of the screen. Follow the prompts on the screen to reinstall the software. Select ‘Run’ when it gives you the option to Run or Save. You may want to uncheck the boxes that will make Yahoo! your default search engine or home page. Accept the Terms & Service of Yahoo! Messenger, and the installation should begin. Once complete, your new version of Yahoo! Messenger will be ready for use.

If you created a back-up of your message archive, you will need to locate it once the new messenger software has been installed. Copy the back-up folder, and paste it into the ‘Profiles’ folder in the new Yahoo! Messenger program. The default location for the software would be C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Profiles. This will allow you to access your archives from the Yahoo! Messenger software.

Sometimes, for unknown reasons, Yahoo! Messenger will begin to work unsatisfactorily. Reinstalling the program is often the cure for the errors caused by the program, so a quick update wouldnÕt hurt when you are experiencing problems.

Windows Chkdsk Utility

If you are a frequent computer user you are probably well acquainted with errors and error messages. Chances are you have also experienced other types of problems such as problems booting or some other problem that can occur on your hard drive. The problem comes with regular use of your computer when you are uploading and downloading files. There are many things that can go wrong with your hard drive but this does not always have to spell gloom and doom.

Windows users have an added advantage since Microsoft has seen the need to provide a chkdsk utility to perform hard disk diagnostics. With this handy tool you can check your hard drive to find out if there are errors on your hard drive or maybe there are bad sectors on the hard drive that are preventing your system from working properly.

Windows XP is one of the versions that has the chkdsk utility feature. It will allow you to perform a quick scan or a more in-depth scan that does a more through check of your hard drive.

You can launch this chkdsk utility from Windows. All you have to do is open My Computer then right click on the hard drive you want to check. You will then select the properties tab which can be found in the tools tab. Then all you have to do is tell it to check now. You will have two choices to choose from. One will offer you the option to automatically fix file system errors and the other one will scan for and attempt to recover bad sectors on the drive. Once you tell Windows to perform the scan you will get a message telling you what errors, if any, were found.

Here is where you need to get a pen and paper. Unless you can screen print the results you will want to write down what errors pop up. This will be helpful in the future when you are attempting to repair those errors. You will also have this documentation to serve as back-up in case you need to take your computer in for repair.

It would be best if you ran a chkdsk for each drive. Your computer may have several drives and any one of them could be defective or be causing problems. The most common drive is C but there are other drives that serve to provide you with other functions.

Chkdsk utility is a great tool to use to try and diagnose hard drive problems. You may only think the problem is with your hard drive when in fact it is with a program or download. Finding out whether or not your hard drive has defects will help you determine what methods of repair you need to consider.

If you find that your hard drive has bad sectors it may be possible for you to fix those sectors by telling chkdsk to repair all errors it finds. This is certainly worth trying before you take your computer into the shop. Chances are you will be able to repair the damage at home without the added expense of a professional.

Fix Code 39 Errors in 10 Seconds

A code 39 error in windows xp and 2000 usually refers to the PC not being able to run a device properly. This can be the result of many reasons including major crashes, payware, corrupted drivers, updating your devices with improper drivers or corrupted drivers, etc. Regardless of this, you need to fix code 39 errors for all your devices or your PC performance will suffer… A LOT. If you are a gamer, you will see a dramatic drop in your FPS (frames per second), slow load times, or overheating etc. Either the device does not work at all or it will work but not function correctly and cause permanent hardware damage if left unfixed. Here is a quick way to fix code 39 errors if you do not have a backup cd, or restore cd or you can not get your manufacturer’s official drivers at the moment.

Go to device manager by right clicking on your “my computer” icon.

Go to properties.

Go to device manager.

Find the device with the small yellow flag (error code 39) next to the devices. Now right click on it and go to properties.

Go to the drivers tab.

Now press the “Roll back Driver” button.

Windows will use the last properly working driver for the device. The flag will be gone and the device should work properly now. A word of warning, this is only a temporary fix in my opinon. You should go the manufacturers site of the device and update the device with official drivers or obtain the recovery cd. If you don’t want to bother with this and just want it fixed once and for all go download Driver Detective here for a free scan to see they have the official drivers.

Clearing ARP Cache

Most people have never heard of ARP. It is something that is very important and something you need to understand since it is essential to your network communication.

You need to understand that ARP is very important when talking about IP networking. ARP connects OSI Layer 3, which is the network to OSI Layer 2, which is that data link. In plain language this means that the ARP is what we use to link our IP address to our Ethernet address. Before you can communicate with other devices on your network you must first have an Ethernet MAC address that is used for that device. If by chance your device is not on your LAN you will then have to go through your router, or default gateway to link to the device. Under this circumstance your router will be your destination device and will allow your PC to communicate with it.

Now that we understand what ARP is we can look at the two types of ARP. Those types are static and dynamic. The average person will usually use dynamic for most computer sessions. This means you are linked to the Ethernet for as long as you are using your PC. The opposite of this is static which means you are manually putting in the link between the IP address and the Ethernet.

If a PC needs to communicate with another host it must first be able to read the host name with the DNS server. The IP address must be resolved and read before the PC will be able to communicate with the host you are trying to access. Once this communication is accomplished this entry will then stay in a local ARP cache to be ready for the next time you need to use it. The ARP will then stay in the cache until you remove it or until the time has expired. You can be assured that if the router is communicating with the device you will have an ARP cache.

Regardless of the IP device that you use you will have an ARP cache. This comes in handy with your trouble shooting should you start to have problems. If for some reason you start to have problems you may want to clear your ARP cache and try to reestablish your communication again.

Sometimes when you attempt to clear your ARP cache you will find that you are unable to do so because of a bug in Microsoft Windows. Microsoft has had its share of problems when it comes to errors and trouble shooting. You may receive an error message that tells you Windows could not finish repairing the problem.

The usually happens when routing and remote services is turned on. For the most part routing and remote services is not necessary and can remain turned off. To do this you should click the start button then click Control Panel. If you are in Category View you should switch to Classic View. Then click on Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Services and Applications, Services, and then scroll down to routing and remote services. Here you should be able to turn off this feature and clear your ARP cache without any problems.
